I have seen the glory and it is called AVATAR (in Imax 3D). I am man enough to admit that it was so pretty I cried. Story was pretty standard and you could see every development coming after about 10 min into the movie, but it seriously did not matter; I would happily have paid the $36 bucks to walk right back into the theater with my girlfriend and watch it again. o_O

I read 3 good books this weekend.... [Oct. 5th, 2009|12:04 am]
[Current Brain | content]

Just read the His Dark Materials trilogy this weekend and liked it quite a bit. I actually agree with many of the theological/philosophical ideas expressed and have for some time now (starting back in high school I started to come around to many of them). I do feel he is a little hard on the church at times, but overall I kinda agree with Pullman. Very interesting world(s) he created for it, although the eventual outcome of everything could be seen from pretty early on in the second book and there were a number of plot holes. Still, a very pleasant read. I'm sure that movies of the 2nd and 3rd books would never be released in America even if the DO get made. As open minded of a country as we like to think we are we are pretty fucking closed minded, self righteous, and not much slower to damn "heresies" and "sinners" as our forefathers, which is just plain sad. It really IS a whole anti-Narnia. ^_^

Now to get back to the Litany of The Long Sun which I did not get nearly as much read from as I had intended this weekend, only about a hundred pages or so. Ah well, that is what this week will be for.

[Current Sounds |stuff I wrote bounding in my head]

I am so FREAKING awake right now it isn't funny. Awake like I want to go do a few laps around the block kinda awake. Actually what I really really really want to be doing is recording the vocals for any of the number of songs I've written recently. Well, I suppose I've recorded them either on my computer (with my webcam) or on my little handhold tape player, but that doesn't count. Burning creative desires boiling in my veins. DON'T DENY MY VEINS!!!!

**twitch**

Recorded spoken word vocals today for an industrial track that Rudge wrote a little while ago. I like how it turned out. But I want to siiiiing, belt it out, not piss of neighbors, etc... Don't want to watch a movie. Don't want to draw. Don't want to play vidja games (despite the fact that Final Fantasy: Dissidia is bloody fun). Want...to...SING. Alas it is almost 2 am which means any and all singing at any volume is nixed. Maybe I should go run around the block. Maybe I'm just so twitchy bcs I didn't leave my apt at all today except to take out the trash. Maybe I am just insane. Only the Shadow knows.

Song I wrote abt a half hour ago is called "Schrodinger's Cat." I like it. It is a different style than I normally write/sing in. Much more Brandon Boyd than my normal stuff I'd say. I need to take a shower bcs it is warm and I am sweaty.

Random backstage passes... [Sep. 13th, 2009|02:04 am]
[Current Brain | bouncy]

Soooo today was totally going to be sitting around the apt helping my girlfriend make the shadowboxes for her sculptures...and then I received a text at 7:30am from her asking if I could do her a favor. Turns out the lady that owns the gallery in Berlin that Ver is having a show at in October was in town today and wanted to meet up with Ver to chat abt stuff for an hour or so and Ver was wondering if I could drive her there since there was a music festival going on today and she didn't want to have to find parking. I said yes. A short bit later she got more info saying that she needed to get there before 4:45 because the lady was going to be backstage by then and wouldn't be able to necessarily come down to give her the backstage passes after that; this got me wondering because Korn was going on at 5:45. Ver then stated that Yasha, the lady from the gallery, was friends with Korn so that would make sense; I was instantly jealous of her awesome connections (joke) and the fact that she was probably going to be hanging out backstage with Korn. Soooo we headed over there at abt 3pm to get there by 4, and then recieved a frantic call asking us to pick up some sunscreen aaaaand somehow I ended up getting invited along. We procured sunscreen, got there by 4:40 (it literally took us an hour to get that damn sunscreen) and then we met up and got the backstage passes. Then we went inside and Ver and Yasha talked some uber exciting and promising (for Ver's art career...seriously awesome stuff...like being in a museum and whatnot) stuff while the guys from Korn were just wandering around getting ready for their show. Then we moved out to the hallway when another artist showed up and a short bit later Ozzy and Sharon walked by and both said hello. THEN we got to watch their sets from backstage and I got a signed drumhead from Korn's drummer. Holy hells that was an unexpected evening. I would talk more abt it (sadly I didn't get to do more than just nod and say hello to the guys in Korn bcs they were all in pre-show zone) but I'm bloody tired. Damn cool day though. Damn cool. Night!

Went to Disneyland on Friday with mah Ver for her B-day. It was awesome. Terrible much fun. The little mickey head doughnuts in New Orlean's-town are derishious. The Indiana Jones ride is quite possibly spectacular. I totally bought a bunch of stuff for my nieces and nephews (oh god...$100 worth of tings to send to them). For her present I recorded myself reading Good Omens for her (because no audio recording exists of it) and drew her a birthday card (here is the front http://cannibalgnome.deviantart.com/art/Birthday-Card-4-Ver-124850766). I also did my best to pay for as much as possible at Disneyland, but she wouldn't let me pay for everything. I bought her a freakin-sweet EVE toy at one of the little shops also for her desk at work, and bought be a Mr. Potato Head dressed as Boba-Fett. We played with them the next morning before cooking breakfast.

Spent the rest of the weekend chillaxing with Ver at my apt. She did some work on her current sculpture, but other than that we chilled, watched movies or tv shows, and cuddled. It was awesome.

I also just bought a new phone. I am giving mine to my little brother (so he can be on the plan with my mom). This means I no longer have any financial reliance on my parents. o_O But at least I have a pretty sweet phone out of it. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=4786 Should arrive on Tuesday at work. I'll have to give everyone my new number soon. :)

UP - see it, love it, suggest it to your friends [May. 30th, 2009|02:36 am]
[Current Brain | happy]

At first I was sad when I left work today because I wasn't going to get to see Ver this weekend. Then while chatting with her online she said, "wanna watch a movie tonight?" HELLZ YEAH! The original idea was to just cuddle and watch a DVD of something or another, but then we realized that UP (Disney/Pixar) is out and recalled that it looked adorable. So we bought our tickets and sat down for what we thought looked like a cute yet odd movie.

What we got was one of the best movies I have seen in a while. Beautifully animated (hell, it is Pixar), I alternated between laughing my ass off and bawling my eyes out more times over the course of an hour and a half than a bi-poler sufferer that hasn't slept in 3 days. Seriously, this movie is laugh out loud hilarious. In addition, it is, as Ver put it, "so cute I died." It is also terribly touching and causes both excruciatingly sad and happy tears. Perfect script, perfect voice acting, perfect animation; I honestly can not think of a single way this movie could have been better. If you doubt the words coming out of my mouth, watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftidAFcJ_EQ Alls I can say is that the Pixar/Disney combination is churning out gold these days with original, amazing, and extremely memorable movies.

THEN we came back and did the cuddling. I don't know bout you all, but I sure had a lovely evening. Ciao!

Manic times in the life of Adam [May. 24th, 2009|10:42 pm]
[Current Brain | happy]
[Current Sounds |Clandestine's upcoming album]

Wow...I forgot what it was like to have free time on a weekend. Or at all really. o_O

Working at the So Cal Ren Fair has been freaking awesome and I am so glad that I joined the Mongers. I had a blast with all those crazy bastards every weekend. The fact that I got to try and "sell" fair-goers gross stuff like pig tongues and severed pig heads was just a bonus (albeit a BIG bonus). My favorite was plopping a still bloody (or rotting depending on what day and what time) pig head on top of my own and wandering around promoting it as edible head wear. So much fun. Ver and her bff Alfie came out the last day of fair which was a really nice caper to it all as well. :) That all being said, DEAR GOD IS BEING ABLE TO RELAX AND SLEEP IN AMAZING.

Oh...really freaking sweet occurrence last Sat night. Now, Chet Zar is one of my favorite artists and has been for years. It turns out that Ver is friends with him and has also been in some shows with him. Have I mentioned before how awesome my girlfriend is? Anywho, a while ago she asked if I'd like to go to a gallery opening of Chet's that was coming up and I positively JUMPED at the opportunity. After I got home from the Ren Fair last Sat night we headed out to the gallery that the showing was at and I finally got to see one of my artistic idol's works in person. As we were looking at his work and his father's paintings as well (they were having the show together) I saw a fellow that looked familiar to me. "I think that is Adam Jones over there," I said. "Who?" queried Ver. "The guitarist from Tool," I replied. After a bit of summoning up my courage I walked over to the man, begged his pardon, and asked if he was Adam Jones. "Yeah I am. Nice to meet you." I got to chat with Adam Jones. Let me repeat that because after a week it still hasn't entirely sunk in yet - I GOT TO CHAT WITH ADAM FUCKING JONES FROM TOOL!!! **fanboy death explosion** He introduced me to Chet as well and I was chatting with them both. Ver walked over and was like, "hi Chet," and he was like "hey Ver! Glad you could make it," and gave her a big hug. We chatted for a bit longer with two of my artistic idols and then we headed out. Sweet baby Jesus it was hard to maintain a cool composer during that whole time bcs I totally just wanted to fanboy out, but I felt that would not be appreciated by either of them and would also embarrass both Ver and myself. Still...ZOMG!

Also, the other day my friend June sent me a text saying that her band Clandestine was playing at the Knitting factory on Friday night. I met June in line at a Kidney Thieves show shortly after moving out here and have wanted to see her band for a while bcs they have pretty cool music up on their myspace. They started off the show and holy god did they steal the thunder from every act that came after them. Such an amazing performance, such good music, and such amazing musicians to a one. Guys from the headlining band were standing next to me and one made the comment, "damn, I feel like I've just been educated." June and the drummer specifically were positively mesmerizing with their abilities; the drummer was playing ridiculous poly rhythms and June has this amazingly beautiful singing voice and a massive scream as well (all the more impressive as she is all of about 5ft tall and I could probably encircle her waist with my hands). I will definitely try to make it out to as many shows of theirs as I can because...well...they are that damn good.

And the piece de la resistance to the current fun events was that Ver came over last night. I'm not going to be able to see her very often for a while bcs she is buckling down to get her sculptures done for her upcoming gallery showing in Berlin this October. I made dinner for her and we ate it while watching a bunch of Chapelle Show episodes. We also got up this morning and made a whole slew of delicious foods for the massive fooding that then ensued (blueberry pancakes, fresh pineapple and strawberry, omelets, bacon, sausage patties, and a Cajun potato and veggie hash...all so good); it was made better bcs we were watching my favorite Disney movie of all time THE LION KING. We lounged about a bit more, watched some videos she took on her camera from when she went to Morocco for New Year's Eve, and then Ali made homemade gespatcho soup and avocado-bean dip which the three of us ate while watching Pirates of the Caribbean. Unfortunately Ver had to leave so that she could go sculpt for the rest of the 3 day weekend, but I was so glad I got to just spend time and relax with her. It is nice to be able to spend time, cuddle, talk, take goofy photos, and just enjoy the company of the person you care about, and I am so grateful that I was able to do so with Ver last night/today. I haven't smiled for so many consecutive hours in a long time. :)

Le sigh...much to do still this weekend so I'd better get cracking. Take me home Invader Zim!!!

Fun things I've done in the past few days... [Apr. 28th, 2009|10:55 pm]
[Current Brain | ditzy]

So I've had a number of fun occurrences in the recent days (and a few really frustrating things as well which I don't care to discuss currently) and I would like to share them.

1) Last Wed my band opened at Shavo Odadgian's birthday party. Granted we went on at 8pm and there were not very many people there yet, but I still had a good time.

2) Went out to dinner with Ver for her friend's birthday party at this amazingly delicious restaurant in Pasadena called MOJITOES. Mango mojitoes are delicious and the pork cutlet I had in a red wine reduction sauce...sweet heavens. Afterward we came home and relaxed for a while with Ver.

3) Took Sat off from the Ren Fair bcs I've been running myself ragged. This afforded me the opportunity to actually sleep in with Ver as opposed to having to wake up uber early as I rush out the door and she heads home. We made omelets bursting with goodies, blueberry pancakes, bacon, and a random assortment of things all cooked up in a pan together as well. Mmmmm...

4) On Sat afternoon one of my favorite authors Catherynne Valente was giving a reading at the Pasadena library so I went to that. Awesomely done, Catherynne would read an excerpt and then upon finishing the folk musician S.J. Tucker would sing a song she wrote that related to that chunk of Catherynne's book PALIMPSEST. I drew a map on my face for the reading and Catherynne asked if I'd like to join her, her fiance, and her friends for dinner...which I did. Terribly nice people one and all and such a fun time; hopefully I didn't bother them all too much (I was terribly shy and didn't say much). A thousand thanks to Catherynne Valente for an awesome afternoon.

5) Went to the fair and had a fun time. We had a pig's head this week and I went out at the end of fair carrying is under my arm. I then proceeded to mong the still bleeding pig's head to people as they left. At first I just tried to "sell" it to them as food. Then I started trying to "sell" kisses from it (whereupon I would kiss it's snout). Then I started shoving my hand in it's throat opening and my thumb in its spine hole, calling it Herbert (on the suggestion of a wee child), and trying to sell it to people as a new family friend to have about the house. Then...yes my children...THEN I plopped the neck opening on top of my head and wandered around telling people that I had the freshest fashion in all of England and that I would love to sell them my hat. Nothing attracts a more horrified crowd that a strange man strutting about like a runway model with a bleeding pigs head balanced atop his own cranium. I probably contracted Botulism from it all, but it was worth it.

6) And finally...yesterday Ver got a message from her friend Jason asking if I would like to model for him for a comic book he is drawing. Yes yes a thousand times yes. So her and I went over to her friend's studio after I got out of my band meeting tonight so he could take photos of me in various poses for the comic he is currently working on. It was really cool and entertaining to pose for it and Jason is a phenomenal artist (I've met him a few times before with Ver and he's a pretty cool chap as well) so I can't wait to see the art. I'm not sure which will be out first, but my likeness will make its comic book debut in either an upcoming issue of DEAD IRONS ( http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=18988 ) or in a horror comic (CREEP I believe is the name of it) in which I get to be the protagonist of Jason's story. He also had me pose for some promo art for a screen play he is pitching. How freaking cool is that?!?!?

Sleep time now. Night all!

***mopey moment**
Ver leaves for a work conference tomorrow morning and tonight was the last time I get to see her until work on Monday morning. :(

Life living in a crime scene (also known as someone got shot basically in front of my house) [Apr. 23rd, 2009|09:42 pm]
[Current Existance |Murderfield Block 16 (dun dun dun)]
[Current Brain | anxious]

Fun times!

So I was listening to music, eating dinner, and chatting with my girlfriend on the computer when I heard a fire-truck "WHOOP!" I peaked out my bedroom window and saw lights reflecting off of my neighbor's house. I wandered out into the living room and there was a firetruck parked out front, an ambulance, and cops everywhere. Jordan wandered out of his room too (he had been practicing guitar) and we walked outside to see what was up. First thing I noticed was the tracks of blood down the sidewalk in front of our house leading to a group of people huddled around something. Then I noticed the larger puddle of blood and a bloody hand sticking out from between the gaggle of paramedics. Serious WTFM?!?!? Our neighbor came out and said that someone got shot and we chatted with her for a short bit while they got the guy on a gurney and into the ambulance. They threw a pile of bloody clothes (which they had cut off of him) into a plastic bag which afforded a really good view of the blood pools. In an attempt to not get too near the blood and/or evidence we did not cross the sidewalk to get a better view of things but just kinda looked over the bushes and all on our tip-toes. I went back inside to get shoes and a hoodie on (figured no need to accidentally step into anything without foot coverings)and then Jordan and I went and talked to our neighbor on the other side (who luckily had just sold his house this morning). He said that he heard a bang, though it wasn't like any gunshot he or his wife had heard before (she had grown up in the inner city of LA)and that then they heard someone yelling for an ambulance. Upon combing my memory I vaguely recall hearing someone shout something although I do not remember hearing a bang at all; either way, I must have just dismissed the yelling as someone being loud as one normally would if not paying too much attention.

Apparently there have been some weird things going on the past few days. Jordan says he got freaked out early this morning at around 4am bcs he thought he heard someone tap his window a few times and our neighbor found a used condom in his yard this morning. Anyways, the cops found two guys wandering about that didn't live around here and were questioning them in front of our house and so despite being massively interested, Jordan and I decided it would be a good idea to go in and lock the door just in case anyone decided to do something really stupid; basically I have no desire to get shot or accosted in any way and we all know people do stupid shit when they are scared. The cops have been combing the street and bushes looking for a weapon for a while now to no avail and one just came and asked us a few questions abt 10 minutes ago. We asked what happened and he said that it appears a group of guys were hanging out in front of our house by the street and a car drove up. Some words were exchanged and someone fired a gun into the victim. Everyone scattered and one of the neighbors called 911. From the blood on the sidewalk it looks like he got shot in front of our neighbor's house and ran past our house and our other neighbor's house. At that point he turned around and staggered back to where he had been shot and fell into the gutter at the side of the road. That is where he was being attended to when we came outside.

So yes, currently I am in a crime scene. They cordoned off a whole chunk of the street with "crime scene" tape (a part of the street that includes our house and both mine and Jordan's cars) and are trying to piece together exactly what happened. Such horrible excitement! That's life in the big city for ya! I suppose I'm just glad that I got home early today and that I didn't have to go anywhere tonight.

I wonder how much harder that will make it for the owner of this house to rent it out starting in June after we move out?

Thank you for visiting CRIME SCENE THEATER.

A tale of tragedy, woe, and sexy awesomness. [Apr. 20th, 2009|10:39 pm]
[Current Brain | drained]

Fun story: my friend/coworker/bandmate Ali and I were driving down to Culver City after work today to drop off rent applications for an apartment we are trying to get. On out way there my stereo freaks out and stops playing cd's. Then it loses radio. Then even when I turn it off it still emits a strange, garbled sound. Wiggy right? So we begin conversing abt how mayhaps I should invest in a new stereo soon as mine has never worked properly and is now apparently giving up the ghost. I start randomly hearing another odd clicky noise at this point. It is a warm day so I decide to roll my windows down more and notice that they are moving rather slowely and I start getting a strange sensation that my car is not driving properly. A few blocks from the rental company I have to stop at a red light and then have to almost floor it to get any inertia going. At this point I know my car is seriously effed. The brave little Geo that could somehow drags itself to the rental company's address where, lo and behold, a spot stands open right in front of the building. My car (at this point without even turn signals, fans, radio, ABS, power windows, etc...) eases into the spot shuddering from the effort. There there good girl, go to sleep now. I shut it off and Ali and I ran into the rental place before they close for the night to drop our stuff off. A kind man in a van tried to give the little lass a jump, but as soon as the cables were disconnected she sighed back to sleep and could only pathetically click, click, click when I turned the key. To the best of my knowledge, my alternator is kaputski.

We called Leslie and she was kind enough to drive out to pick Ali up for practice, although, in the end, it got postponed till tomorrow evening due to the car fiasco. I also texted Ver with the sad news of my car. She put off getting home early to relax and sculpt in order to drive down to sit with me while I waited for a tow truck. For those who do not know (which is probubly everyone), Ver has been working well over 70 hours a week and normally doesn't get home till 9 or 10pm lately, so to get home around 6:30pm would have been incredible for her and she gave that up to come out and sit with me. Then she bought me a frozen drink from the coffee shop right by where my car died. Then she let me load my stuff into her car at the Mitus (where I had my car towed for the night to be looked at in the morning) and drove me home. Then she drove me to the mall so I could pick up some new blk and white stripped thigh highs for my show on Thurs. Then she agreed to wake up at the ass crack of pre-dawn, pick me up, pick Ali up, and go into work 2 hours early tomorrow just so that I can be there on time at 7am. My girlfriend rocks. She really, really, really, really freaking rocks. And she's damn sexy. But holy god, how ridiculously sweet and amazing is she for all that. I must figure out something insanely sweet to do for her soon. **shifty eyes**

But yes, ze Prizm is in desperate need of repair and hopefully it won't be an outlandish cost to do so. My Geo made it across a country and kept on trucking, but it may sadly be the end for her.

Balls.

**sigh** Show on Wed at the Key Club though. Shavo Odadjian's birthday party and all that awesome jazz. I'm massively excited to play it and you should totally come if you can. More info and all is in my myspace blog. I must sleep now; this whole weekends full of monging raw pig tongues in the blazing sun at the Ren Fair wears me the hell out.
